Hannah

Colour Photograph

45cm x 62cm

I first met Hannah in her financial advisor capacity in 2009. She had a keen interest in photography and we soon became friends. In 2011, we had been trying to organise a dressage shoot with her beloved horse, and a few weeks before the shoot, she heard the devastating news that she had breast cancer. Despite having two lumpectomies days before, we went ahead with the shoot. It was on this shoot that I was honoured by her request - if I would help her photographically document her cancer journey. Her chemotherapy started three days later.

Midway through her chemotherapy, Hannah found another lump in her breast, the cancer had returned. Hannah took the decision to have a mastectomy. And again asked me to continue to document her journey. After more chemotherapy and radiotherapy, Hannah was given the all clear.

This was when Hannah felt life really began. She changed her mind-set, changed her attitude and took life on fully. She started her own business, made national TV show appearances, wrote a book, was asked to do public speeches (including TED), competed in the Tough Mudder event (a matter of months post Mastectomy) and became an ambassador for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. She found her true love in Ioannis. Life was great
