Subjection

Artist Maggie Kelly

Acrylic and Varnish on Expanding Foam - Torso

Gold body dominated by the "internal". Emerging back tissue which we know is used in the breast reconstruction process.

During past creative collaborations I physically underwent research, medical and scientific procedures such as MRI scan of the brain and 3D laser body scans within Aberdeen University’s Radiology department at Forester Hill Hospital and both Robert Gordon University’s Science and Biomedical departments. From the digital results I then produced sculptural works. Undergoing each of these scans gave me a glimpse into the clinical investigation and diagnosis of the body, surfacing feelings of objectification and prompting realisation of out fragile and ephemeral form – a daunting reality which unites us all.
