Who'd a Thunk It?

Colour Photograph

55cm x 80cm

Doug Harper male breast cancer survivor. Suffering lymphedema after mastectomy.

"I walked the 20 minute walk to Queen Elizabeth Hospital….I felt fine. Still felt nervous though. Went to Macmillan Brook outpatients. All the seats are comfy. Sofas and armchairs. Really laid back. My name was called ‘Douglas Harper’. Sigh “Call me Doug please”. I went in the room. The door was closed. The consultant was next to me. A nurse was sitting behind us on a couch.
The consultant said ‘Hello Mr. Harper, we have the results of your tests and I am afraid that you have breast cancer’ CANCER.
The word went around my head
CANCER CANCER CANCER CANCER
The last word you want to hear".
