Scars of Emancipation

Srinidhi Krishnamoorthy

This acrylic painting was inspired by a life drawing session in which some of the breast cancer survivors were involved as models.
The painting looks at their bodies in a different light, using bold colours to explore the shadows and crevices of their feminine form. Scars from a double mastectomy and abdominal surgery are her rewards for surviving cancer and ill health.
It is through their manifestation that the model realises her own true value and finds new meaning to her life. Reborn, liberated from the weight of the past.
The speckles of glitter signify a beauty from within, illustrating how light can be found in the darkest of times.
